The Spanish Peaks

The Spanish Peaks
The Spanish Peaks from County Road 330.

I think any blog about Huerfano County's geography must first pay homage to the county's most remarkable geographical feature — the Spanish Peaks. East Spanish Peak (elevation 12,683 feet) and West Spanish Peak (13,626 feet), dominate Huerfano County and serve to attract tourists, retirees, mountaineers, and other curious folk.

Well worth a read.

Reading Spanish Peaks: Land and Legends, one learns that the human aspects of Huerfano County geography are just as important as the physical features. The six thousand or so residents of the county are kind yet rugged, and they know and reflect the amazing geography of Huerfano County.

In this blog, I will describe individually the various features of Huerfano County geography. I will explore and describe crags, plugs, buttes, mountains, and streams. Let's get started.
